Wire not: A look at TDK's new WR700 wireless headphones

- Ralph Mendoza -

MANILA, Philippines - Wires can sometimes turn into a plate-less pile of inedible pasta and you don’t want that. A possible solution: TDK’s WR700 wireless headphones. Before you bid your wires goodbye, though, we’ve jotted down the good and bad so you know what to expect come shopping time.

The Good

1. These wireless headphones feature the Kleer technology, which promises to deliver “wirelessly uncompressed digital audio at CD quality” as opposed to Bluetooth. It also minimizes “drops.”

2. Its swiveling ear cups have a compact and foldable design.

3. In terms of sound quality, the bass and treble is superior within its sound-isolating cushioned ear cups, especially for wireless headphones.

4. Its sleek, adjustable headband is made of soft leather. You have to touch it to believe.

5. It’s compatible with all audio devices using a 3.5mm headphone port.

6. It’s also got an adapter for AV receivers and cloth carrying case.

The Bad

1. It requires using the included receiver dongle, which looks slightly bulky, especially if you plan to pocket it.

2. The transmitter and headphones each require two pairs of AAA batteries. Surprise plus point: TDK is known for its ultra-low power consumption, taking about 30-40 hours of battery life with an auto power-off for extended play.

3. Headphones could be better in terms of comfort.

The Bottom Line

6-3 in favor of the good. TDK’s WR700 wireless headphones have the Kleer wireless technology instead of Bluetooth, which is a straight up advantage in terms of sound quality. Plus, for a reasonable price, these headphones are a great way to finally lose those bothersome wires.
