MANILA, Philippines - Winter is coming… well, not exactly. Though certainly some of us wish it were, on account of not being able to wear, let alone purchase, those winter pieces you’ve been eyeing at the stores. Unless you’re headed somewhere less tropical for the holidays, then you’re also part of the majority — yes, that one. The one trying to circumvent the sartorial rules to match the especially less “brrr”-y months we’ve been having lately.
It’s a tricky task — even for the most seasoned shopper — to figure out a compromise. But there might be hope. Though it’s always been about striking a balance, your winter derivative’s scales might have to tip on the “less” side more: integrate scarves, leather skirts, sweaters, jackets, leggings and fur(!) into your summer staples of short dresses, shorts and sheer cut-out blouses. Rather than simply going monochromatic with neutrals, throw in some deep reds, oranges and pinks — and spruce it up by donning bare-midriffs or a floppy hat.
In short: don’t hate the layer, and don’t hate the game. Just remember to not lay it on too thick.
