Vinyl + Splash: The Ultimate Collectible and Comic Convention
MANILA, Philippines - Raging comic and collectible fans alike are invited to the first Philippine comic and collectible convention. Aptly entitled VINYL + SPLASH, the convention will be held tomorrow at Fully Booked Bonifacio High Street. Gates open at 10:00 a.m. and admission is free.
The event will showcase local talent spanning various art forms, from comic to vinyl collectible to street art. Established comic artists such as Leinil Yu (New Avengers, Secret Invasion), 2011 Eisner nominee and 2011 Prix Asie-ACBD awardee Gerry Alanguilan (Elmer, Wolverine, Ultimate Avengers), 2003 Eisner awardee Lan Medina (Fables, Silver Surfer), and Mico Suayan (X-Men: Legacy, Thor) and many other comic notables will be featured.
Sarah Gaugler (musician, tattoo artist, artist), Bru Sim from graphic design duo Electrolychee, Alibata artist Nico Puertollano, graffiti and graphic artist Nemo Aguila, and other upcoming Pinoy artists will also be around.
The 2011 San Diego Comic-Con Inkpot awardee Tony de Zuniga, however, will be the event’s main special guest. Having co-created the comic characters Black Orchid and Jonah Hex, de Zuniga will surely make going there worth it.
For fun, trading blocks, comic book signings, giveaways, and other prizes will culminate in an art jam, wherein artists will combine their efforts to create a piece that will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Psychedelic hip-hop DJ Caliph8, a local graffiti artist himself, will supply the beats during the after party at the same venue.
This ought to be comic relief at its peak.
