Gold Panda takes a bite out of Makati

London-based electronic producer Gold Panda – Derwin Panda in real life – released an album “Luckier Shinier” last year, scoring an impressive 8.3 from Pitchfork.

MANILA, Philippines - Hypnotic bleeps and beats are heading your way tonight, Friday, Sept. 16, as British electronic producer Gold Panda arrives in Manila for a much-anticipated live set.

To be held at 9 p.m. at B-Side in The Collective (7274 Malugay St. San Antonio Village, Makati), Gold Panda’s set will be opened by Subflex’ Bent Lynchpin and B-Side residents Don P and Soul Flower. Live art by LA’s Angry Woebots and San Francisco’s Dee Jae will be installed at the venue as well.

Touted by Pitchfork as “a nostalgic machine” and Fader as “the loveliest, techno-cloaked glitch-pop this side of the future,” Gold Panda’s music is well-hyped for reason after reason. His tracks may come off as mechanical and obscure at first but the melodies eventually wind up human, wistful, and deeply emotive, bringing to mind works of established acts like Flying Lotus, Four Tet, and Baths. Panda uses an Akai MPC2000XL sampler as his main instrument, which lets him rearrange samples at the touch of a button.

It goes without saying that Manila doesn’t get this type of live music very often so be sure to catch Gold Panda tonight at B-Side.
