Hustle and flow

- Ralph Mendoza -

MANILA, Philippines - The annual lifestyle fair that gives you ‘first dibs’ on up and coming brands celebrated its fourth year with music, style, and a whole lot of barbeque.

I guess some things are sweeter the fourth time around.

Held by the poolside deck of the Renaissance 2000 Tower in Ortigas, First Dibs delivered yet again on every bit of dopeness that was expected from it, all thanks to Commune Manila and the 30+ brands that pitched in.

“First Dibs is a celebration of the independent lifestyle culture,” says Christel Boncan, Commune Manila’s PR and Marketing Manager. “It’s a lifestyle fair and afternoon BBQ party, with good music and great company. Primarily, it’s a venue for entrepreneurs to sell and showcase their products, while building and nurturing a community of people who share the love for music, art, and fashion.”

Live bands like June Marieezy, Chilitees, LDP, Miscellaneous, Mike’s Apartment, Milagros Dancehall Collective, and other DJs brought the grooves while people — from Divine Lee to your above-average skater — roamed around, hustling for the rarest of t-shirts.

Booths such as Oh Hello, also stood out for their wild wares. “We were able to finally launch The Beginning, our first official line of shirts. [It features] the unique Hidden Licky print and promotes the happy-go-lucky attitude that Oh Hello,, stands for,” says Raizel Go, 1/3 of the graphic design group. “It’s fun-inspired street culture, a lifestyle that invites you to live reckless and stay toothless.”
