MANILA, Philippines - Your weekend-all, be-all

WHAT: “Postlocal: Painting” by Bruihn, Nona Garcia and Anna Varona

WHY:   Because to open our eyes and minds to the local art community, we need to look at it from the outside. “What do we look like?” was what curator Isa Lorenzo wondered about the Filipino contempo-art community while wandering alone in Japan. Look here and you might get an answer.

WHERE: The Slab Gallery

WHEN: The exhibit is up until April 17.

WHAT: “The Unnamable” exhibit

WHY: Taking off from the final book in Samuel Beckett’s dark trilogy, The Unnamable, this exhibit is a gathering of works that explore the paradoxical nature of human existence. Besides, how can you ever get enough truth from what you see? Especially when Roberto Chabet, widely regarded as “The Father of Conceptual Art in the Philippines,” is curator.

WHERE: The Manila Contemporary Gallery

WHEN: March 27 at 6 p.m.

* * *

WHAT: Earth Hour

WHY: Because no matter the abundance in idiots it produces every second, the earth is still precious. And in order to reverse, or at least slow down, the damage those idiots are doing, an hour of no electrical power can be powerful.

WHERE: Wherever you are.

WHEN: March 27 at 8:30 p.m.

* * *

WHAT: Jens Lekman with special guests Outerhope

WHY: It’s definitely a Swede thing—easy people as they are, you get something that’s easy on the ears. It’s indie pop that’s definitely sweet and a little too earnest, what with an album title like “When I Said I Wanted to be Your Dog,” which oozed out the cloying chart-clinger You Are the Light. Still, there’s no wrong in music you can make out to. (P 450 plus a drink.)

WHERE: Saguijo

WHEN: March 30 at 9 p.m.
