Get into the beat

-

MANILA, Philippines - As graphic tees and skinny jeans are seen as telltale signs of today’s teen fashion sense, a person’s music choice can be seen as the window to their soul. In fact, classic genres such as rock, blues or jazz have evolved into contemporary sounds of alternative, trip-hop, electronic and indie. Artists such as Rihanna, Alicia Keys and Lady Gaga have proven to have a strong following worldwide — proving that their smooth R&B is one of the main courses in the Generation Y music scene.

Filipinos have their own interpretations, such as the eclectic sounds of Up Dharma Down and Taken By Cars, or the alternative rock beats of Urbandub. But with the myriad artists, both local and international, what do teens really want?  Tang Fruit Teaz’s newest “celebri-teen” ambassad-ors, Rayver Cruz, Sam Concepcion, Alex Gonzaga, and Matt Evans, have their answer.

Handpicked from among the throng of young celebrities, these four are the perfect epitome of the Tang Fruit Teaz thrust of encouraging the youth to explore the world for new discoveries and fuel their curiosity through art, dance and music. Tang Fruit Teaz, with its exciting new line of fruit-flavored iced teas from powdered juice giant Tang, celebrates the thriving local music scene by encouraging individuality in music choice.

Similar to the way that Tang Fruit Teaz redefines iced tea drinks by introducing six uniquely different fruit flavors such as strawberry, apple, mango, orange, peach, and lemon, Rayver, Sam, Alex and Matt have come up with their top music discoveries that define their unique style and spirit as a teen.

Young actor Rayver Cruz (of the talented lineage of Tirso Cruz III, as well as Sheryl, Sunshine and Donna Cruz) gets into the beat of R&B and hip-hop. Songs from Justin Timberlake and Ne-Yo inspire him and get him pumped up for the day.

“I get to discover new music by watching television and listening to the latest hits on the radio but I’m more inclined towards listening to rap and hip-hop tunes,” he says.

Extraordinary singer and theater actor Sam Concepcion couldn’t help but agree with Rayver as he also enjoys mainstream pop and R&B, which, incidentally, are also the songs he sings. Although he admits that he likes listening to all kinds of music — from Broadway to rock — he prefers chilling to songs from R&B artists like Chris Brown, Ne-Yo, Justin Timberlake and Alicia Keys.

For Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition contender Matt Evans, reggae is the way to go. Once sporting an Afro, he finds himself more inclined towards the sounds of Bob Marley and the Wailers with occasional riffs from local reggae band Hemp Republic.

He also has his favorite alternative rock bands such as The Killers and Green Day. “It usually depends on my mood but I really like listening to varying music genres,” he explains.

The only girl in the group, Alex Gonzaga, shares that she likes grooving to different types of music because she likes discovering new things. But she points out that being a girl makes her more partial to female singers.

“I favor female singers because I also want to be a singer, and they inspire me to improve my singing talent,” she enthuses. “Right now I like Demi Lovato because she has spunk and style. But my all-time favorite is Beyoncé.”

Tang Fruit Teaz, distributed and marketed by Kraft Foods Philippines, is one of the most dynamic and non-traditional iced tea brands to date. Inspiring the Filipino youth to harness their innate curiosity and thirst for learning, Tang Fruit Teaz features fun, healthy and creative discoveries for the youth.
