Boys' night out at SM
MANILA, Philippines - Clothes may make the man, but it’s the choice of his accessories that give him character. It’s the little things, as they say, that mean a lot and it’s amazing how the choice of one’s hat, tie, or eyewear can spell the difference between being geeky and cool, smart and so-so, and stylish or just not into it.
At SM, men will find a wide range of accessories perfect for their personal style. And Boys’ Night Out, today’s hottest radio stars made SM’s Men’s Accessories Department their playground as they created classic prep school and Upper East glam looks inspired by the fashion of the hit TV series Gossip Girl.
Just as they make drive time fun and entertaining, Sam YG, Tony Toni, and Slick Rick created a lot of buzz as they shared their thoughts on how accessories can make a difference.
Who is your style icon?
Tony Toni: I don’t really have an icon. But I do like Ashton Kutcher’s fashion sense, as well as Kanye West’s, Justin Timberlake’s and Pharrel William’s.
Slick Rick: I like the way the guys in Gossip Girl dress up ... so with the guys of Entourage ... relaxed, but looking good.
Sam YG: If ever I would have one, Justin Timberlake would be the closest. I go through GQ once in a while just to see what’s new in the fashion scene.
How would you describe your fashion style?
Tony Toni: Clothes that are classic and timeless. I call my overall style “Soulful Prep.” If I’m at work, I like wearing a sweater and jeans and sneakers. On formal occasions, I like wearing suits with a tie and cuff links on my shirt. Earth colors are my favorite, but once in a while, I’ll wear loud colors like red, yellow, and pink.
Slick Rick: Sometimes relaxed, sometimes formal. It depends on my mood.
Sam YG: My style is a fusion of many elements ranging from simple crew neck shirts with jeans to fully decked out suits. Sometimes, I even wear formal jackets with casual pants. I wear what I feel and feel what I wear. I’m particularly crazy about sneakers, some with colors and styles beyond your wildest dreams.
Which fashion accessory can you not live without?
Tony Toni: My watch, Buddha Beads crystal quartz with dzi beads; my necklace with a Jatukarm pendant.
Slick Rick: My eyeglasses ... it’s part of me and I can’t see without them. Can’t imagine being without my watch because I need to know the time.
Sam YG : I can’t live without my eyewear and bracelets. My eyewear gives attitude and spunk to my daily wardrobe, while by bracelets give me power (yeeaahh, man). I’m also a watch guy, and can’t live without my watch.
Accessories 101 for guys?
Tony Toni: Refrain from wearing white socks and black dress shoes. This is not a good look. Also, don’t wear your shirt buttons open with a garish piece of jewelry on display. You may think this is a cool way to show your manly chest hair, but it is a fashion disaster and portrays poor taste.
Slick Rick: Keep it simple, don’t over-accessorize. But don’t go the other way and be too boring. Have an accessory that will make you look better and add more flair to your clothes.
Sam YG: Do accessorize — it adds spice to your life, but don’t overdo it. Wear something that suits your mood or personality, but once in a while dare to be different.
Why do you accessorize?
Tony Toni: Accessories are a form of self-expression and bring out your personality without saying anything at all.
Slick Rick: You can stand out and make a difference in a crowd with accessories.
Sam YG: I hate boring. Accessorizing allows me to be more creative and more expressive.
Which “Gossip Boy” are you?
Tony Toni: A combination of Chace Crawford and Ed Westwick, but I prefer Ed Westwick’s fashion style.
Slick Rick: I think I’m more like Dan — simple and comfortable.
Sam YG: I guess I would be Nate with a twist.
All accessories are available at the Men’s Accessories Department of the SM Department Store.
