MANILA, Philippines - The Association for English Research and Teaching (ASSERT) and the Department of English of Ateneo de Manila will sponsor a seminar-workshop on Classroom Research for English teachers tomorrow, Sept. 19 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Faura AVR, Ateneo de Manila Loyola Campus. The workshop aims to develop teachers’ confidence in their capacity to combine research with their teaching practices so that they can influence material developers, administrators, and policy makers regarding the teaching of English.
Dr. Marlu Vilches, dean of the Ateneo School of Humanities will deliver the plenary talk on “Closing the Artificial Divide between Teaching and Research in the English Classroom.” There will be four parallel workshops on researching the macro skills of listening and speaking, reading and writing, and researching teacher/student qualities. These will provide hands-on activities that will guide the participants through the processes of formulating research questions based on their classroom experiences and identifying appropriate frameworks and methodology to answer their questions.
Registration fees are inclusive of two snacks, handouts and a certificate for only P1,200 for non-ASSERT members and P1,000 for current ASSERT members.
