All about 'being scene'

It was a match made in fashion heaven — Power Plant Mall and Manila’s top stylists. When the shopping is a good as it is in Power Plant, sometimes you need a fairy god-Rachel Zoe to help streamline your infinite list of I-want-I-wants to a collection of the pieces that will really go a long way (or at least this season). From this blissful union came the most genius idea of all: a fashion registry that grants you 10 fashion wishes! (Aladdin can keep his genie and lamp.) Last week, Power Plant Mall introduced its Be Scene fashion registry with Metro, Mega and Preview. Stylists from these top fashion magazines (Mela de Luna of Metro, Patrick Ty of Mega and Liz Uy of Preview) handpicked the hottest fashion pieces from selected shops and created in-store displays that everyone could enjoy. As you walked around the mall and spotted the magazine covers in the shop windows, it was as if the stylists had left their respective stamps of approval. You couldn’t help but dash inside to see what the stylists picked out.

From August 26 to 28, each magazine displayed their stylist’s selection and guests signed up for the fashion registry. They were given a wish card, along with a map of Power Plant that guided them to the stores where the displays were. As they wandered in and out the different shops to check out the stylists’ choices, they scribbled down their top 10 favorites. At the end of the night, one lucky winner could win all 10 of his or her own picks in a raffle. The first of its kind here, this fashion registry was too delectable to resist!

I dropped by Preview’s exhibit last Friday, and the magazine had literally brought their pages to life in the Archaeology Wing of the mall. Maxine, Preview magazine’s fabulous alter ego, takes a whirlwind trip back in time in Liz Uy’s picks. From hanging out with Spartans in Rome in the 1600s to stealing Marilyn’s thunder in the US in the Paris in the 1950s, Maxine looked positively fierce in her stylish black attire. It was a fun mix of designer trends from their Fall 2009 collections to the pieces you’ll see in Power Plant. A Nina Ricci gown with Charles and Keith boots. An Anthology coat with Marc Jacob’s ’80s-crazy leggings. Louis Vuitton’s bunny ears (by the versatile and oh-so-creative Marc Jacobs again) and Cru accessories. Liz Uy’s picks blended so well with the high fashion sketches that I had no trouble imagining those pieces integrated with my own wardrobe. It was an impressive exhibit that I enjoyed browsing, and it got me walking over to the different shops to check out the selections. I guess I had too much fun because I missed the raffle completely!

So much for my 10 fashion wishes.
