Bigfish delights in a decade of dance

BEAT GENERATION - Ricky Daker -

It was a glorious thing. The crowd was a sea of white dazzling brightly in the multicolored glow of the lights. Hands were raised high up in the air, euphoric limbs moving in gleeful unison as the beats progressed. Cheers and hoots rose in response to the audio-visual treat, a homage to technology, innovation and novelty. Hors d’oeuvres were shared and glasses and beer bottles were clinked, a toast to joy, to music, to friendship, to youth, to a decade of exciting, exhilarating Bigfish events.

Bigfish, the first name in partying, celebrated 10 awesome years of consistently bringing the best live dance music experience to the country. To commemorate a decade of dance, Bigfish Innovation White featuring Ministry of Sound made a thunderous ruckus at the A-Venue Events Hall last June 26. A trio of local and international talent rocked the hall’s walls and left the revelers with a phenomenal party experience to remember.

Bigfish resident DJ Johnboy Lee started the night off on a high note. To bid farewell to legendary music icon Michael Jackson, Johnboy spun a mad medley of the late King of Pop’s most memorable songs. He rallied the crowd into a frenzy, and the partygoers happily obliged by singing along to the pop star’s hits.

Young trance prodigy DJ Jon O’Bir came onstage with great aplomb, opening his set amid a play of lights and a bevy of dancing beauties. The UK-based talent, who also pumped up the vibe at last year’s Innovation White bash, was a sight to behold onstage, jumping along with the Manila crowd. His mixes of Paul van Dyk’s tracks and his own melodic trance masterpieces made for an uplifting, positively charged set.

American DJ Christopher Lawrence then brought the mood to a harder, more sinister level with a series of dark and fast trance beats. Named Best American DJ at the International Dance Music Awards and peaking at No. 4 in DJ mag’s Top 100 DJ Poll in 2006, Christopher Lawrence showed Manila that he clearly has what it takes to roll with UK’s big boys.

Bigfish thanks its sponsors and media partners for the unwavering support they have shown over the years. Team Bigfish wouldn’t have pulled off such a massive feat without main presenter Nokia Music, the major sponsors Fit ‘n Right and San Miguel Light backing them up. Also instrumental in making this event possible were our media partners who spread the word about Bigfish happenings including AXN, AXN Beyond, Friendster, Fudge, MYX, Magic 89.9, 100, FHM, FHM.com.ph, Velvet, The Philippine STAR, Killer Bee, Life & Entertainment (Manila Standard), Stella, Tsuper, ANC, XFM 92.3, Jam 88.3, Wave 89.1, NU 107, Pinoyexchange.com, Spot.ph, Rogue, Uno, 99.5 RT, Munchpunch.com, Manila Bulletin, Business World, ETC, Travelife, Clavel, FemaleNetwork.com, Focalcast, Bounce, Circuit, Travel Plus, Roam, Yehey.com, WHR, Inquirer.net, Philstar.com, Clickthecity.com, and Bigfish Radio on Magic 89.9. Special thanks to official vehicle sponsor Dodge (Cats Motors), Gold’s Gym, Oliver’s Super Sandwiches, Music One, O video& music, Odyssey, Café Via Mare and Pioneer Pro DJ.

After a decade of ruling the scene, expect that Bigfish will be turning up the intensity of their upcoming events. On July 25 House music fanatics can expect a great set by the fiercest house Master Mark Doyle at Fiamma club who just installed a brand-new sound system we are going to test that night. And on August 14 Dutch Master Sander Van Doorn will be making his way to wow Manila crowds with his ultimate tunes, headlining the Godskitchen Worldwide tour. Can’t wait for the next mind-blowing aural fest? Keep logging on to www.bigfishmanila.com for updates.
