Create, express, and have fun this summer with PETA

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) holds its annual Summer Theater Arts Workshop ongoing until May at the PETA Theater Center, 5 Eymard Drive, New Manila, Quezon City.

Aspiring young actors and artists can take up Children’s Theater (1 and 2) and Production Workshop for Children while teens can opt for Production Workshop for Teens and Theater Arts 1 to learn creative dance, music, writing, visual arts, and group dynamics.

Aspiring thespians, performers, and musically inclined individuals, on the other hand, can enroll in an advanced course in Basic Acting for Theater, Creative Musical Theater, and Creative Dance. Visual arts enthusiasts can learn more about lighting techniques, costumes and scenic design through the Production Design course.

Teachers and moderators can also enhance their teaching methods through PETA’s Creative Pedagogy course.

New Voice Company offers acting workshop for teens and adults

New Voice Company (NVC) invites teens and adults to explore the exciting world of acting and theater through its 2009 Summer Theater Workshop ongoing until May 31 at the New Voice Company Actors Studio, 8020 Tanguile St., San Antonio Village, Makati City.

Acting for Teens and Adults is open to students 11 years old and above. There are classes in acting and improvisation — using the Stanislavski-Uta Hagen-devised approach. This includes sense memory, physical and psychological actions, animal work, relationship exercises, and learning how to build a character.

Theater games by Viola Spolin encourages trust, being part of a team, confidence building, concentration, and developing creativity and imagination.

Main workshop teacher and director is NVC associate director Rito Asilo. Asilo handles the adult class while NVC veteran artist Missy Maramara handles the teen class. NVC artistic director Monique Wilson supervises the first weeks of classes.

Classes for teens will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., while classes for adults are slated every Tuesday and Friday from 7 to 9:30 p.m.

The final showcase will be held on May 31 at the RCBC Theater, Ayala Ave., Makati City.

Repertory Philippines trains budding theater artists

Repertory Philippines offers its 2009 Summer Acting Workshop for kids, preteens, and teens.

The Advanced Acting Workshop is open to advanced students of past workshops who are seriously considering a career in theater. Advanced principles in acting such as technique, script analysis, character analysis, concentration, improvisation, proper use of voice and sense memory are all covered in these classes and culminate in the staging of a straight play or musical.

Open to adults 17 years old and above, the Adult Beginners Acting Workshop covers all the necessary tools a student needs to learn to eventually go onstage confidently as a performer. Exercises cover the proper use of voice, which includes breathing and vocal prowess; the full use of the actor’s body, and challenging the mind and creativity of the artist.

The Repertory Summer Camp is open to children ages five to 16 years old. The art of acting is taught through various theater games, designed specifically to help children build skills on how to perform, be more confident and responsible.

The workshops are divided into the following classes: Kiddies Class (five to eight years old), Pre Teens Class (nine to 12 years old), and Teens Class (13 to 16 years old).

All acting classes will culminate in a recital within the last wo weeks of May at Onstage Theatre, Greenbelt 1, Makati City.

Rep also offers voice lessons, which boast an integrated approach to the study of basic vocal technique.

Discover the exhilarating world of theater with Tanghalang Pilipino

Tanghalang Pilipino presents its 2009 Summer Theater Adventure, a three-week program of various theatrical activities for different age levels designed to develop, hone, and explore the dramatic skills and talents of aspiring young artists.

It is composed of classes for children, teens, and adults facilitated by some of the country’s most outstanding thespians and practitioners in the field.

Kids, teens and adults can choose from the following courses: Children’s Theater 1 (five to eight years old) and Children’s Theater 2 (nine to 12 years old) features creative dramatics for children using games, storytelling techniques, movement, music, and masks as tools of expressions; Teen Theater (13 to 16 years old) is an introduction to performance skills for young adults. The course integrates creative drama, music, writing, movement, and visual arts to explore the themes concerning the youth; Beginning Acting (17 years old and above) is a practical application of the rudiments of acting including concentration, spontaneity, improvisation, confidence, body and voice preparation, characterization and script analysis to create a unique and authentic life on stage; Musical Theater for Teens (12 to 16 years old) and Acting in Musical Theater (17 years old and above) involves singing, movement and acting classes that are synthesized to prepare participants for performance in musical theater productions; and Stage and Production Management (18 years old and above) lets participants learn about the seamless management of the technical as human aspects of a production.

Each workshop culminates in a recital to be held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Tanghalang Huseng Batute.

Musical theater workshop at Gantimpala Theater

Gantimpala Theater stages its Theater Musical Workshop ongoing until May 21 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Rehearsal Hall, Open Air Auditorium Building, Luneta, Manila.

The workshop is open to teens and young adults, ages 13 and up. Facilitators Roeder Camañag and Only Torres will guide and teach participants an integrated class of movement, singing, and acting.

The month-long class has different modules that will prepare them for a musical performance. They will do an original musical production as their culminating piece.

Little Chef’s Summer Workshop at Crowne Plaza

Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila brings back its Little Chef’s Summer Workshop with new recipes, top chefs and loads of fun.

Open to kids five to 12 years old, the two-day activity, which will start on April 18, will introduce kids to basic cooking skills and simple recipes that can be enjoyed at home.

Paricipants will receive a Little Chef’s kit complete with a chef’s uniform, T-shirt, toque, side towel and handouts.

The workshop covers principles in food safety, kitchen tool familiarization, personal hygiene, and basic cooking techniques. The participants will also have a tour of the kitchen and see real chefs in action. After completing the program, they will receive a certificate of completion signed by executive chef Angelo Faoro.

The program includes lunch buffet at Seen Corners for the kids. Their companions will be given 25 percent discount on the lunch buffet.
