Even before its façade became evident, the Hotel Celeste already generated interest. Standing on what used to be the former Mars disco on the corner of Makati Avenue and Pasay Road, the construction raised more than its share of questions: the 30-something crowd wondered if it was going to be a reinvented version of a ‘90s night haunt, the much-older ones hoped it wasn’t. But the four-story structure and ornate silver façade made it evident that it was bound to be a little gem of a boutique hotel.
With only 30 rooms, the Hotel Celeste makes up in style and sheer prettiness what it lacks in size. Owner Cely Sarabia credits being inspired by the various hotels she stayed at in Europe and the Scarlet Hotel in Singapore. Hotel Celeste incorporates modern Euro interiors, antique-style accents and plush furnishings Victorian damask lamp shades and wallpaper complement brocade settees and velveteen cushions. Silver gilded mirrors hang from walls, tasseled cords gather heavy curtains, cushy headboards preside over large queen-size beds. “Everyone in Makati is going modern,” says Sarabia. “We wanted to give something different.”
