Today’s tween stars might be in the mood to ditch their bubblegum style and head for sexier territory (see: Miley Cyrus and her allegedly hacked iPhone pics featuring the scandalously clad 15-year-old in see-through wet shirts), but more than a few of us (read: 15 and above) don’t mind infusing a little sweetness into our style. Quite a few designers felt the same way. Anna Sui’s bohemian fall collection ads boast pretty paisley prints that wouldn’t look out of place at a Twilight reading party, while Missoni’s recently-debuted campaign mixes retro-inspired prints with saturated hues like teal and brown.
For Kamiseta, there’s more to the mix than the usual striped fare (although there’s plenty of that, too). Embroidered bohemian tunics embellished with pastel floral prints, knit tops and dresses, cotton voile blouses and denim frocks headline the label’s latest collection. Standout pieces include an eyelet-trimmed pastel plaid dress with bell-sleeves and floor-sweeping skirts in tune with the latest resort trends (see: Chris Benz, Carolina Herrera, Matthew Williamson).
A certain sense of girlishness has pervaded many collections at high-end and high-street shops everywhere, with sweet sherbet shades and quaint prints garnering status, according to numerous tastemakers. Which is funny, considering so many of the biggest teen sensations seem to be hastening the growth process, while everyone else, it seems, would like to turn back time. — BL
