The Jamaican sensation

MEANWHILE - Michelle Katigbak -

By now you have already come across the music of Sean Kingston. If you haven’t, than you have been living under a rock! Sean Kingston is one of the hottest new artists in the music industry today with chart-topping phenomenal hits like Beautiful Girls, Me Love, and Take You There. The Miami-born, Jamaican-bred rapper/songwriter is heading to the top of the charts and into the hearts of many, especially his many female dance-loving fans!

A few weeks ago, music’s newest ingénue entertained fans of all ages at a fun, dance-filled show at Glorietta under Sony BMG and MTV. He debuted his latest single There’s Nothin’ to amazing crowd response. The track, Kingston explained, is another heart-wrenching song about teen love. But this time, it ends much better than his song Beautiful Girls. The audience ate it up! Indeed, the crowd ate up everything the singer/songwriter gave them including singing his own famous hits while injecting a few verses of fellow rapper T-Pain’s famous song Low. All in all, it was a fun concert with people up on their feet dancing to every song and begging for more!

To judge by the phenomenal response Kingston received from the adoring audience, it’s no wonder that in just a short span of time, Sean has quickly become a household name and had already done what few in his age bracket can accomplish — get people excited about music again. His album is filled with hits, containing 100-percent written-by-him lyrics including Got No Shorty, Dry Your Eyes, I Can Feel It, Kingston and Your Sister.

The 18-year-old Miami native, born Kisean Anderson, recently made it on to the Forbes list of The Year’s Hottest Music Stars, holding the prestigious number two spot alongside fellow artists such as Jordan Sparks, Hurricane Chris and others. In essence, the list was populated by artists who hit it big with major hits in 2007. This definitely describes Sean whose song Beautiful Girls was a major hit in numerous countries. Indeed, who hasn’t heard and/or tapped their foot to the infectious beat of this addicting anthem?

Surprisingly enough, though, I think one of the reasons Sean Kingston is so successful is because this artist recognizes that, as an 18-year-old who is making urban music, he has a responsibility to his fans. “With this album, I thought it was important not to use curse words or negative language that might offend people. I write my own songs so it’s like if I can make a great track without using those words, than that’s the style for me,” Sean continues. “As an artist, my whole goal is to make a powerful and classic album. I want everyone to feel my music and understand my heritage and that’s what this album will do. The music is the authentic Sean Kingston vibe and I’m ready to share it with the world.” These are sentiments that are not common among today’s music artists and truly it makes Sean Kingston not only an impressive new music staple, but a good role model as well.

As for me, I see nothing but bright things in Sean Kingston’s future. I had a great time at his recently concluded concert and several of his songs are constants on my iPod playlist. They’re great not only to sing to, but to shake it to as well.
