In the volley of the sun

- Rebecca C. Rodriguez -

School’s out for summer, as Alice Cooper sings in that immortal rock n’ roll tune. But if you’re an office Joe and Jane chained to your desk, maybe you deserve time on the beach in your bikini and beach gear as Nestea hosts its Beach Volley National Circuit once again.

Every year, Nestea makes sure that summer’s biggest event will be jam-packed with activities — where one comes for the beaches, the beauties and the volleyball action, which is the splendor of it all.

“Nestea Beach Volley is a one year event to plan and execute,” says Tina Samaco, Nestle AVP and Nestea consumer marketing manager. “For this year, we want to promise a bigger and more exciting event when we go national with four different venues.”

With the approval of Philippine Volleyball Federation as its official beach volleyball tournament of the Philippines, Nestea Beach Volley National Circuit will hold beach volley games with 72 teams from 43 colleges and universities from all over the country. Since Boracay is home to one of the country’s best beaches, teams who will qualify for this leg of the competition will receive cash prizes.

The beach volley elimination round will be held from Mar. 4 to 6 at Tagum Beach Volley Drome at Rotary Park in Davao for the Mindanao teams, Mar. 25 to 27 at Island Cove Hotel and Leisure Park in Cavite for the Luzon teams and Apr. 8 to 10 at the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod for the Visayas team. The semifinal and championship rounds will be held in Boracay from Apr. 24 to 26.

Aside from beach volley action, there will be other activities in Boracay’s hotspots like parties in La Carmela de Boracay Hotel, Summer Place, Boracay Regency Beach Resort and Crystal Sand Beach Resort with a victory party featuring Parokya ni Edgar for everyone to rock with.

“Nestea’s mission is to be the ultimate summer drink,” adds Samaco. “In line with this event, we will continue our environment advocacy campaign, which is our beach clean up efforts with the sole purpose of loving the beach.”

Caring for the environment is Nestea’s very important mission for this event as a way of giving something back to the beach. This will happen at Coral Garden Marine Park, Island Garden City of Samal in Davao on Mar. 8 and in Boracay on Apr. 25.

So, if you want to help in this effort, all you have to do is buy the Nestea Beach tumblers in three designs during the elimination rounds, mall tours and MRT stations — because the proceeds of the sale of the tumblers will be donated to the beach clean-up effort.

Nestea will also bring the beach vibe starting tomorrow to malls like Market! Market, Mar. 1 to NCCC Mall in Davao, and on Apr. 5 to SM Bacolod. Expect freebies to be given away in the mini concert along with henna and glitter tattoo sessions.

Perhaps what makes this year’s Nestea Beach Volley more exciting compared to previous years is the “Be On TV VJ Search.” Men and women aged 18 to 26 can get a break by co-hosting a segment with MYX VJ Iya Villania and appear in Star MYX. Other cool prizes include an all-expense paid trip to Boracay with P10,000 pocket money.

“The ‘Be On TV’ contest is open to everyone aspiring to be like your favorite MYX VJs,” Samaco concludes. “You just have to create a one to two minute video clip and share your fun summer stories like your favorite destination, trips, sports or even other activities like beach conservation.” Then, upload your videos in Nestea’s website or submit to Mindwork Concepts. Deadline of submission is on Apr. 5 and winners will be announced on Apr. 15.
