New Year, new Bora

FROM COFFEE TO COCKTAILS - Celine Lopez -
It’s no secret to my friends that I firmly believe that part of the fun of any journey should be getting there. Once getting to Boracay was a sort of trek, almost religious in a sense: an arduous plane ride, followed by a long, bumpy automobile ride towards Caticlan and a languid boat ride towards the island itself. Getting to the powdery white sands of Boracay used to take hours, but today with so much demand for R&R, progressive companies like Asian Spirit make it a snap to get a tan and make it to that Monday meeting.

The almost unbelievable 25-minute flight to Boracay via Asian Spirit literally takes you from smogville to paradise in a span shorter than it would take you to get from Greenbelt to Megamall on a payday weekend. Now it makes Boracay, once a haven for long breaks during Easter and Christmas, the ultimate weekend destination. The planes are no vans with wings; their luxe 100-seater planes take you to the turquoise seas with little need for a Chamomile or Xanax fix.

Boracay’s soul is still intact despite the devastating storm that hit it two weeks ago. Construction has been going on day and night to make sure that when the annual Boracay New Year ball comes to town, the only thing that will pour will be champagne.
