Here are some tips to get you started:

Shop leisurely. Spend a few hours looking around because rushing leads to impulse purchases you may regret.

Have the proper frame of mind. Be open but not impulsive. There are many great finds by nondescript brands you may not have considered before.

Another no-no. Also not to buy on the cheap: scents. Splurge on good brands. Knockoffs are never quite the same – and you can smell the difference.

Great buy. What to buy on the cheap: casual shoes. Flip-flops, slip-ons and anything you don’t intend to be wear for more than a few hours. For office shoes and pairs for those nights out, invest in killer heels.

Don’t get carried away. Know your style and don’t buy things just because they’re cheap. You’re not likely to wear them.
