MYX hails our own music

I celebrated my independence day witnessing a night of endless cheers and accolades at the first-ever MYX Music Awards. Set at the Onstage, Greenbelt, MYX staged another feat in the music scene as it unveiled the public's favorites, chosen via text votes, and awarded Rivermaya’s You’ll Be Safe Here as the Favorite Media Soundtrack and Favorite Music Video, and Cueshe’s Stay as Favorite Song. The event also payed tribute to an inspiration to both budding and certified OPM artists, the Megastar Ms. Sharon Cuneta, who recieved the first MYX Magna Award. Classic songs of the Megastar were performed by noted singers such as Top Suzara, Nyoy Volante, Christopher De Leon, Yasmien Kurdi, Nikki Gil, and Jaya.

The program opened with an impressive and well-applauded production number showcasing the favorite songs of 2005: Hale’s The Day You Said Goodnight (sung by Aia of Imago), Cueshe’s Stay (sung by MYMP), Orange and Lemons’ Pinoy Ako (sung by Akafellas), Sponge Cola’s Gemini (performed by Rachelle Ann Go and Christian Bautista), and Bamboo’s Hallelujah (performed by Pochoy of Dicta License).

Other performances were by Sandwich with Wally Gonzalez and Pepe Smith, Parokya Ni Edgar and Kamikazee, The Dawn with Sugarfree’s Ebe Dancel, Urbandub’s Gabby Alipe, and Bituin Escalante.

It was the song Sayang na Sayang by Manilyn Reyes. I was only three years old when it was one of the hit songs on the radio.

Who among the OPM artists would you invite to sing in your wedding?

Jett Pangan. If he can't be my groom, he might as well sing for me during my wedding. Jet and I have been good friends for a long time.

I would choose Ogie Alcasid. Aside from being a good singer and songwriter, I have worked with him and he has been kind enough to give me pieces of advice on performing.

Death By Tampon, because it’s my band.

It will be the song Bakit Ba Inibig Ka sung by Regine Velasquez and Erik Santos. They are both my favorite singers and I can relate to the song.

The video of Rainbow by South Border. It is very visually entertaining and has a very positive message that says everything will be fine.

I would invite Regine Velasquez so I can get free singing lessons from her.
