Bring your music wherever you go

YOUTHSPEAK - Monique Buensalido -
Haven’t you wished you could bring your music with you wherever you go? Imagine seeing your crush and playing a romantic song (to yourself, of course). Imagine hurrying to class and playing a punk rock song to pump you up while you’re breathlessly running through the halls. Imagine trying to relax while studying for your finals and playing a soothing, chill out song, and then following it up with a classical tune to rev your brain cells for studying.

Life is pretty boring without music. No movie is complete without a soundtrack, and so it is with everyday life. I always try to make up for the fact that my life doesn’t have an actual soundtrack by providing my own – I hum, sing, croon, rap, tap my hands on the desk, whistle, or wiggle to the music in my head. I recently got the mp3 player that I wanted, and since then I have been wiggling to the music I choose. Sometimes I like randomly selecting songs, but there are times that I specifically choose the music to fit my mood or the time of the day. During mornings, I play loud rock music to go with my morning coffee to wake myself up. When I’m getting ready to go out, I listen to R&B music and dance while choosing tops. When I’m feeling nostalgic, I choose cheesy sentimental music to really bring on the sniffles. Sometimes I even play memory specific songs – the song I used to sing with friends at the back of our classroom, the song I memorized the lyrics to during my senior year, the song that was in every place I went to back in France – to replay the images in my head.

Yes, music plays a huge role in our lives. It can heighten our moods or experiences. It can store memories. It can tell stories or send a message. It can bring people together. Or it can simply get you swaying in your seat or nodding your head in unison. Music has interwoven itself in our everyday lives. We already know that there is always music playing somewhere – in the jeep (blaring very loudly), in the mall (even in each store that you step into), your friend’s guitar, someone’s laptop. And whether we know it or not, we all have music running in our heads or beating in our hearts. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could align the music we want to hear with the music we’re actually hearing?

That’s why I’m so amazed with the latest Walkman phones, especially the cool Sony Ericsson w810i. With all the features that my phone had, especially the camera, I never thought I could want anything more until now. I find it annoying that I have to leave my mp3 player at home because it won’t fit into my handbag. Of course, my phone has to come first, but the standard ring tones in my phone can’t replace my choice of songs in my player. With the Walkman phone, I can always listen to the songs that I want to hear and create my own playlists while I’m on the go.

Since I love alternative rock, here’s one playlist I’d arrange right away:

Foo Fighters – Best of You

Nine Days – If I Am

Stroke 9 – Letter

Alanis Morisette – Uninvited

The Used – I Caught Fire (In Your Eyes)

And that’s just one genre! Imagine the playlist possibilities – you could select the songs you want to listen to when you’re driving, when you’re waiting in line, when you’re feeling down, even when you just feel like listening to your favorite song. Not to mention text, call, fix your schedules, take pictures, play games, and do everything else with the same phone. Why get the same mp3 player as everyone else when you can get a single phone that plays music and does a lot more?

Here are some other students who, like me, love bringing their music with them wherever they go. I got curious about what they loved about their Walkman phones, and they were only too happy to share the awesome features of their phones. I might have to get myself one of these very soon.

What do you love about your phone?

The Walkman phone has very dynamic features, such as the ability to play music, using its speakers. This allows a louder range of play, and better sound quality. The 2-megapixel camera gives good resolution pictures, with a flash that can also serve as a flashlight. The phone also has both bluetooth and infrared, not one or the other. Plus, it’s small and light, that it fits everything, from music, pictures and messages.
