’Whatever’ in NYC

RAVIN’ FACTS - RAVIN’ FACTS By Jennifer Ong -
Sunny days may be rarely experienced. Work may be more demanding. Traffic may be crazier. Still, there are some things that don’t really change. They just get even better. One of them is Philips-MTV Whatever Things, now going stronger towards Season 3!

Yep, it’s back. Now more than ever, the show is all set to give you another season of wacky, crazy, cool (and sometimes disgusting) stunts that are sure to awaken the wild child in you. Just get ready to do ... well, whatever! For starters, why don’t you gear up, Philips style?

To this day, Philips is still on an all-out mission to spread its Personal Expression campaign, encouraging the youth to promote their individuality and show the rest of the world just what they’re made of. This campaign is done side by side with two more consumer electronics campaigns: the Home Entertainment campaign and the Home Computainment campaign. The Home Entertainment campaign refers to televisions, home cinema systems, and digital video recorders that enable us consumers to have an enhanced entertaining experience in the comfort of our homes. Meanwhile, the Home Computainment campaign has to do with the PC peripherals, which include monitors and PC display technologies that are sure to improve the quality of both work and pleasure. As you can see, Philips has your life in check, 24/7.

In fact, Philips has just created three more mobile phones that are certain to make there way into your wish list. First is the Philips 760 mobile phone that carries a 1.3-megapixel digital camera equipped with zoom, flash, and photo toolbox. What’s more, you’ll love the feel of its clamshell designed casing as you check out its installed and/or downloadable games, MMS and polyphonic ring tones.

Don’t you just hate it when your thoughts fly out of your head before you can put them on paper? Well, how about putting them on your phone? Yep, with Philips 766, you can just jot down ideas as they come due to its handwriting recognition. More, it’s got an onscreen virtual keyboard, which swivels and rotates, allowing more convenient accessibility. With this phone, you’ll also enjoy a 1.3-megapixel digicam, 256K color main display, 64 polyphonic ring tones and embedded games.

Now, if memory space is the main issue for you, your new pal has got to be the Philips Xenium 9@9i. It’s got a sizable 20MB internal memory, which can allow for more than a hundred entries in your phonebook as well as a voice recording for up to 30 minutes. It might also well be your personal secretary as this mobile phone enables you to remind yourself of your appointments via voice reminder. Add to that, its 1.3-megapixel camera is enhanced by a 4x digital zoom. Also, it allows you to talk for eight hours with just one single charge. Now, isn’t this thing a beauty?

Proud to be going strong in 2005, Philips partners once again with the youth multimedia mogul, MTV. As of now, MTV Networks Asia Pacific reach is going strong as it continues to operate 10 24-hour programming services. These are MTV Australia, MTV China, MTV India, MTV Indonesia, MTV Japan, MTV Korea, MTV Mandarin, MTV Philippines, MTV Southeast Asia and MTV Thailand. In our continent alone, it commands an audience of over 180 million households. Indeed, MTV is the right partner for Philips especially with a personal expression endeavor. Their corporate partnership has been incredibly successful. One good proof of this is the Philips-Whatever Things Season 2, which ended with a bang last January in Bangkok, Thailand.

If you haven’t been tuning in, you’re just in time for another mind-blowing and downright fun season. In season 2, our very own Macky Lim claimed the grand prize as he fought hard and won against Whatever Things contestants from India, China, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. Apart from the cool prizes, he also got to co-host the show with music artist and actor Edison Chen. Moreover, he hung out with the infamous AIYA Gang who is responsible for bringing this show to unthinkable, fascinating, and amusing heights. Comprising the AIYA Gang are Edison, Shenaz, Josh, Mad Dog, Min the "Pain Guy," Potsy and Arm, the reluctantly "New Pain Guy." They’re crazy and cool. If you don’t believe me, see for yourself. Better yet, join in the fun!

Is Pinoy pride going to emerge once again? Better yet, are you going to be the next Pinoy pride? I guess there’s only one way to find out – join the contest.

If you missed the party last September 24 at the Shangri-la Mall, well ... that’s just too bad! I mean, you have just passed on the opportunity to watch Spongecola, Brown Man Revival and Pedicab live. Also, you also missed the chance to see the AIYA Gang and their crazy antics. Come to think of it, Philips also showed off a number of its coolest mobile phones and MP3 players. Really, that’s just too plain bad. But still, I’ve got good news. You haven’t missed everything just yet.

How does a trip to New York sound to you? Good? Now, how does a trip to New York and becoming Edison Chen’s co-host in MTV Asia sound to you? Better is my guess. Now, you still have to do something. You’ve got to join the MTV NY Studio Passport Contest before you can go on and fly off with a friend to watch TRL live in Times Square, New York. It’s quite easy, really. Just be creative. Think of the craziest, coolest, and definitely most unique stunt idea that you would want the AIYA Gang to perform on the show. All you aspiring stunt-masters can simply log on to MTV Asia’s website www.mtvasia.com/whateverthings. If you want to know more about this, you can also check out www.thingstodoyou rownthing.com.

So now, I believe it’s time to go on a brainstorm. Good luck – and to whoever wins, New York awaits!
