I once heard that the biggest, albeit unlikely, threat to the mens shaving industry is laser technology. Although it is a real option, this form of hair removal is not likely to replace a mans Gillette in the near future.
Women, however, are taking to this liberating procedure. After years of shaving and waxing, we have become accustomed to performing these rituals without a second thought. But what if you never had to do any of those again? What if you never again have to leave the house, only to be horrified later on upon discovering that you missed a few days worth of growth on your shins? Certainly those hot shorts would look hotter sans the fuzz.
I think women should consider laser hair removal for the following reasons: 1. It is permanent 2. Although it costs more per treatment than waxing, it will be cheaper in the long run 3. You may one day not be able to touch your toes 4. You will eventually forget that it was somewhat painful especially when you look at your hairless legs.
Laser hair removal can be performed on the body anywhere from the toes to the underarms. I decided to participate in this "shun the shaving stick" movement and headed off to Belo Medical Center. A topical anaesthetic is applied one hour before the procedure as it can really sting without it. Luckily, it is fast-acting and effectively numbs the skin. The laser is passed two times over the area to make sure that every part is covered. Each passage can feel uncomfortable and I am in awe of the women who have had not only their bikini area zapped, but their entire nether regions as well.
For those lucky ones born with thin hair, you can see up to a 20 percent reduction in hair growth just after one treatment. That in itself is worth a trip or two to Belo! Sure enough, after my first treatment the growth was remarkably sparser. Word to those with thin hair: take advantage of this blessing.
For women with normal to thick hair, up to five treatments will be neededeach within a one month interval so that a full hair growth cycle is reached, giving new hair a chance to grow.
Now when I see my girlfriends who have reached the completion of their treatment, I understand their carefree disposition and realize that these women are not vain. They are practical.
