Sweet tooth

Sugar may have been getting a bad rap since the first supermodel (Angie Dickinson or so she claims). However the sweetness that drips from potent feminine charms, whether from this season’s Jessica Rabbit or Gidget, is anything but equal. The challenge of this saccharine smogasborg that encompasses the tartness of berries, the languid taste of licorice, the warmth of brownies in the summer and the sparkling delight of mimosas before breakfast, is how not to look like the cottage that did Hansel and Gretel.

Have fun with color. Apply it in a way like you are about to scare off your fiancée with a three carat rock and you’ll only find yourself shaking up the booties that you have left behind. Anna Freud once said that "Creative minds have always been known to survive any kind of bad training." So ditch the the how-to-paint by number books and daub on these shades meant for the Met. After all Monet got his ass whipped before he showed ‘em. Blue went bad because of the ’80s, but so did batwings – and look at it now. After all, girls just wanna have fun!

Color trends
: Softer shades of purple, like lilac or lavender, will be big this season. It’s young, pretty and fresh. Best for day. Muted or bright blues will be good for night. As summer comes, bronze and beige shimmers will also be big. For cheeks, rosy pinks, soft peaches or pink-browns will do the trick. Lips, same as cheeks (pinks, corals, nudes).

Simple ways to your update look: Easy! change lipstick color or consistency. If you are used to wearing matte or creamy-textured lipsticks, switch to glosses and vice versa. If you are accustomed to nude based colors, switch to a bright color like Platinum Shine in Mauve. It’s very pretty, or go deeper wear a bright shade of red. Keep the rest of your face bare – just a little concealer, and mascara.

Trends to watch out for:  Bright colors for eyes and lips

Trends to avoid: Don’t be afraid to use color, but go easy on the application. If you feel like wearing blue eyeshadow, apply only a layer or two. But if blue doesn’t go with your skintone, then skip it. It’s better to have bare eyes than overly-trendy made-up ones. If you want to wear a bright color, stick to only one feature. If you want bright lips, go soft on the eyes and cheeks. Don’t over-color your face. Save that for the catwalk or photo-shoots.

Make-up application: FACE: Using L’Oreal Quickstick, Dot concealer under the eyes, around the nose and other problem areas. Blend well. Never put concealer or foundation all over the face. Let you shine through. Finish with a light dusting of translucent powder (using a brush). EYES: With the wand from the Creamy Resist Eyeshadow tube in Crystal Lilac, dab a bit of color on your hand. Then with your ring finger, blend the color a bit on your hand before dabbing it onto your eyelid. Concentrate color on the entire eyelid and blend upwards and outwards! If you want stronger color, dab eyeshadow directly from the tube onto your eyelid then spread and blend with your ring finger CHEEKS:  For oval or narrow faces, apply Blush Delice in Sugar Praline on apples of cheeks (fleshy part) and apply in a circular motion. For rounder faces, apply blusher on cheekbones in a circular motion going upwards and outwards towards the hairline. Be sure to blend well! LIPS: Just apply Glam Shine in Crystal Rose straight from the tube!
