Ad Dimensions: The witty, irreverent voice on pop culture & postmodern studies

-
Pop culture is everywhere. It’s pervasive, invasive and intrusive. It’s ubiquitous, non-obsequious and unavoidable. In fact, pop culture has become a way of life.

Here is where AdDimensions comes in. No, it is not the last word in pop culture matters. Neither is it the authority in postmodern studies. AdDimensions, the official publication of the Ateneo Collegiate Society of Advertising offers a unique perspective on pop culture, using an unconventional, witty and sometimes irreverent voice to tackle everything that falls under the big bright pop culture sun: Film, music, literature, design, advertising, fashion, the works.

But AdDimensions is not only food for the brain. With its clean design philosophy, the magazine also serves as eye candy, accompanying intelligent articles with great graphics and a smooth layout.

But the best thing of all in "the best magazine in the world" is that it’s absolutely free. Distributed in the Ateneo campus and in all Powerbooks outlets, AdDimensions is a delicious gratuitous treat for those who want to read something intelligent aside from the same old babble of the usual pop culture magazines.

Bea Ledesma
is editor-in-chief, with Jonathan Ong as managing editor, Arj Guidaya as features editor, and Lou Albano, Michiko Dulay, Didy Evangelista, Iea Gutierrez, Adrian Lim, Richelle Macapagal, Sep Mahino, Naz Noor, Patricia Romualdez and Mika Sarmiento as staffers. Research head is Binky Fornier, graphic design editor Joseph Eustaquio, graphics editor Maurice Guerlain, graphics staff Aggie Cruz and Kara Locsin and marketing head Vanessa Co.

In its current issue, Avant-Garden: Planting the Seeds of Derision, the magazine takes on the most anti-pop genre: The avant-garde movement, its disciples and its works. From pinpointing what is avant-garde from what is not to picking apart pseudo avant-garde art and asking the question, "Are we being duped?" AdDimensions makes avant-garde more palatable by looking at it through the eyes of a pop culture child. Features on cultic trash films, nouveau advertising techniques and envelope-pushing "artistes" that are accompanied by unique images serve as a brief lesson on what avant-garde has come to mean in contemporary times, when almost nothing is new or shocking anymore.

With all the work already done by AdDimensions, the only thing left to do is to enjoy it.

You can find AdDimensions on the web at www.bestmagever.com and in Powerbooks.
