Mandy Moore: A Look to Remember
January 12, 2003 | 12:00am
Deep-set eyes, lush red lips, an hourglass figure, and a voice that could enchant even the most tone-deaf set of ears. A few minutes spent watching her videos or her last drama-romance flick, and you’ll find yourself singing "I Wanna Be With You". And who wouldn’t, right? Mandy’s cool-girl-next-door vibe makes her a sight for sore eyes and sugary Candy treat.
Penshoppe’s newest and hottest image model, Mandy Moore, has come a long way. At the age of six, Mandy has long yearned for that bright spot on center stage. She spent many days and nights belting out notes from Bette Midler’s "Wind Beneath My Wings" in her karaoke machine getting ready for the her shinning moment. Sure enough, her unmistakable talent has helped her spread her wings and soar high. While singing national anthems for local sports events in her hometown, Orlando, Florida, producers were finally convinced that this gal would be one of the greatest finds for the music industry.
The release of her first few singles at 14 hit the penthouse heights in the pop charts. Her videos, just as well, were the apparent favorites on MTV. Her debut into the public life has, indeed, caused widespread Mandy mania. She has also made waves in the movie industry as she starred in teen flicks like Princess Diaries and more recently, A Walk To Remember, where she played lead opposite to heartthrob Shane West.
And there’s moore! Having lost that long blonde ’do, Mandy is now a more mature and versatile performer. Her work, not to mention the newly acquired dark crop, has a given her an edgier look minus all that teenage bubble gum. "No more blonde Mandy. It’s gonna be brunette for quite some time. My actual hair color is half way between blonde and my current hair color. I don’t know but it’s fun being a dark brunette. It’s the fun part of being a girl. It’s not that I’m changing my image. It’s just really part of having the advantage of being to able to change hair colors when I’m bored," she explains of her rather drastic makeover.
Blonde or brunette, Mandy still trickles with symmetry one would never forget. An undeniable superstar in her own league, Mandy manages to sport the life of a typical 18-year-old chick…dealing with parents (despite the fact that she has her own apartment in L.A.), boyfriend (tennis player Andy Roddick), and shopping limits. "I try to get more bang from my buck. I’d rather get 10 T-shirts for 10 bucks than spend 100 dollars on just one T-shirt." Now there’s one celeb whose kept her senses intact!
An admitted jean and shoe-holic, Mandy continues, "I love jeans. I must have a hundred pairs. They must be long enough that I can wear them with sneakers or sneakers. I like anything black, like a black sweater and a pair of high heels. And just like any girl, I love shoes. I have about 200 pairs."
A fashion lover, Mandy’s also very conscious of what she wears…nothing too sexy, please. She smiles, "I don’t like anything too tight or too short. I like mini skirts sometimes but wearing mini skirts with six-inch heels just isn’t cute. I’m not a big fan of white pants either. My style is really casual, comfortable, sexy but not over the top. You gotta be yourself. If you put so much thought, time, and energy to what you’re wearing, it’ll come across and people will see through it. As long as you are comfortable with something, you’re going to exude confidence. And having confidence is sexy. Having confidence is better than any outfit you can put on. Less is more. I’m a huge believer of that."
Mandy Moore. Admirable? Yes. Unforgettable? Definitely. Sexy? Absolutely!
