Clubska scores with anniversary bash!
November 12, 2002 | 12:00am
Skinheads, mods, rudies and skanormals filled up every available space of Heckle and Jeckle in Jupiter St., Makati for the most awesome party to celebrate the anniversary of the hippest confederation of ska masters in Manila. Clubska Manila is home to the Philippines’ finest ska bands. It started out as an idea contemplated upon by the ska gods of the country a.k.a. Put3Ska, to further develop the already promising ska scene in the country. And with a little more push, it eventually turned to reality on a hot October 1998 night. The reception was exceptional.
After four years, the ska scene is more energetic than ever. At the party, ska band Coffee Break Island immediately assaulted the crowd with a heavy dose of tone and ska classics.
Following Coffee Break Island was Jeepney Joyride who dished out covers as well as original compositions. Shuffle Union also delighted the crowd with their own brand of ska.
The audience broke into a frenzy when Put3Ska came on. The band played a brilliant set of classics and originals that elicited cheers from the crowd. What transpired that night was important to both long-time followers and new enthusiasts of ska. Clubska Manila assured them that the group is as strong as ever. Recently, Clubska continued its onslaught of ska haunts as it concluded its celebration with Clubska fourth Anniversary Part II at Mayric’s in Espana. The gig featured the full roster of Clubska member bands.
The music will never die in this part of the world and Clubska will make dang sure of that!
