Pamper Yourself
April 20, 2002 | 12:00am
Summer is the time to de-stress. After all those grueling exams, it’s time to indulge! You deserve it. Doesn’t visiting the spa or salon sound so inviting? We checked out Emphasis Salon in Rockwell, and here are a few must-try to keep you busy and beautiful this summer. Spoil yourself!
FOR BEGINNERS…
A major "must" this summer is to get a manicure, pedicure, and foot spa. Of course, it’s a given that you keep your nails clean all the time. But you have to make sure you rid yourself of those dry and dead skin follicles, too. Dirty nails and dry skin, what a turn off! So don’t you go exposing your feet with those thong slippers without having a foot spa first. A full deal would cost around P 700. But if you’re the type to do it yourself, buy one of those nail kits, pumice foot scrub, and you’re well on your way.
FOR THE BRAVE AND DARING…
Remember, a good body is not enough to look awesome in a bikini. Better make sure that you get rid of all unnecessary hair that might go peek-a-boo! The best solution? Waxing! Of course, there’s always the handy-dandy shaver in the bathroom as a last resort. But shaving may bring about gashes and scratches if the blade’s too sharp or too dull. Stubble appearing is a clear indication of the irritation.
Salon experts don’t advice use shavers, specially for the underarm and bikini areas because it sets off chicken skin and causes darkening. Now you wouldn’t want that! Leave it to the experts to wax off stubborn hair off your body. For the bikini area, it would cost about P 800, P350 for the underarm, and P450 for a half leg wax.
The cheaper alternative (but a bit more painful) is threading but it gets the job done just the same. It also takes the hair out straight from the roots so it’ll take a while to grow back. Underarm threading costs P300. Half leg threading and waxing cost just the same, but full leg will only cost you P 750. There is no available service for threading the bikini area because just the thought of it can make you cringe already.
FOR THE ADVANCED…
The whole point of pampering yourself is keeping yourself fresh and beautiful, right? So go ahead! A special facial would cost around P 1,000. This is a whole process that would cleanse and take out all the impurities in your face and leave you feeling rejuvenated. Plus you have a choice of a 30-minute scalp and back massage for P 500 or an hour of full-body massage by expert masseurs for P 850.
WHY NOT TRY…
Lulur is an Asian style massage and body scrub with cream bath. It is a two-hour process. You start off with a body scrub. Depending on your skin type, there’s the singkamas cream for normal skin and avocado for dry skin. After the body scrub, the masseus gives another half-hour body massage. Then this is followed by your choice of a milk or a tea bath. After the bath, you go on to the cream bath, which is actually a special kind of hair treatment, depending on your hair type. A full Lulur package costs P 2,750. While a body scrub & massage without the crème bath is P 2,200, and the crème bath alone is P 950.
