Coffee shop-hopping: Press Café

- John Magsaysay of Young Star Magazine -
Finally, an answer to the contemporary café challenge, this Page One progeny has been making waves since its opening last December. Why not, with its Manhattan feel of Jetsonesque furnishings, modern interiors and a vast selection of free-to-read ultra-hip glossies?

Press Café truly geared up on its atmosphere as well as its incredibly diverse menu, making a niche of the artsy-fartsy, the Dexter’s Lab intellectuals, and, of course, the where-there’s-smoke-there’s-fire" swearing socialistas.

The time consuming trial-and-error- taste-test sessions of their chefs clearly did not end in vain, but rather in a highly-stylized contemporary fusion of culinary offerings, down to the last drop of their double shot non-fat espresso. All that while seated on those wanna-take-‘em-home" Vitra chairs that are tagged at 10 grand a piece.

Candid yet cultured, clashing yet classy—it’s definitely a place where Carrie Bradshaw would love to have her unusual Saturday brunch.

What to try:
Pancetta-wrapped Tiger Prawns, Chunky Tomato Soup, Seared Tofu with Miso Dressing Salad, Verdura Sandwich, and Fettuccine with Salmon Cream

How much to bring:
P300 per person

Thumbs up:
It has a bookstore and a museum shop as neighbors, not to mention works of modern masters plastered on its funky walls.

Thumbs down: No Young Star Magazine on the rack?! Something’s definitely missing!
