The growing number of street children in the Philippines is a social phenomenon that confronts us all. Data from the Department of Social Welfare shows that there are currently over 200,000 street children in the country, with over half of them in Metro Manila alone. Thankfully, there are several street children centers that cater to the special needs of these children. However, the existing facilities are severely inadequate to meet the overwhelming need.
Kidsmile Foundation, Inc. is a non-government organization that supports the efforts of these street children facilities. The Foundation assists centers, which cater to the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual development of the children, providing them with the tools and knowledge necessary for eventual self-sufficiency. The ultimate hope for each child is the successful reintegration into society, as an independent and contributing individual.
