December 18, 2001 | 12:00am
The Philippine’s first rockumentary unfolded recently with Tuloy ang Ligaya-The Rivermaya Story on IBC-13. It was another first for Viva TV.
The must-see for Rivermaya listeners – as well as anyone with a love for the Filipino music scene – provided non-stop, wall-to-wall information and insight.
Tuloy ang Ligaya follows the triumphs and trials of one of the country’s most colorful bands, from the start of Rivermaya’s career as a multi-platinum recording artist and national concert favorite to the launch of its current album.
The fascinating TV special featured never-before-seen photographs as video clips, as well as concert footage from MTV and Channel V.
Onscreen to tell the Rivermaya story are key figures in the Philippine music and entertainment scene, from Parokya ni Edgar, Slapshock and Ely Buendia of the Eraserheads, to film director (and Rivermaya co-manager) Chito S. Roño to Atom Henares of NU 107 and Francis Lumen of MTV Pilipinas. The Triggerman of Campus Radio LSFM, who was first to break Rivermaya’s first-ever hit Ulan, also shares his insights on band along with publisher Vernon Go of Pulp Magazine, Jim Ayson of Philmusic.com and music critic Jing Garcia.
Also on hand to share their views are a whole spectrum of Rivermaya listeners from MTV veejay Sarah Meier to Barbie Almabis of Barbie’s Cradle, PBA superstar Danny Ildefonso and Olsen Racela to Buboy Garovillo of the APO Hiking Society, from TV personalities Boy Abunda, Christopher de Leon and Angel Aquino to pop stars Side A.
