Carlo Aquino's "No Fear" Attitude

What makes Carlo Aquino fearless?

Is he the relentless sky-diver, constantly searching for that rush of adrenaline as he plummets thousands of feet into the ground? Is he the hard-core motorcycle stuntman, heir-apparent of the great Evil Knievel? What gives this innocent-looking 16-year old the right to be identified with toughness, edginess, and sheer courage?

Is it because he loves doing his own stunts? Is it the fact that he performed his scariest stunt ever (driving a go-cart downhill beside a steep cliff in Baguio) at the young age of 10? Was it because he actually overcame his childhood fear of cockroaches by actually holding one and killing it himself (ew…)? Or is it the fact that he’s not afraid to admit that he owes his success not to himself, but to the people that he loves?

"I believe in God. Hindi Siya nawawala sa tabi ko, kahit anong gawin ko," he says. "At saka support ng parents ko. Hindi naman ako magiging successful kung wala sila, eh," he is quick to add. "I believe that God gives you fear so that you can achieve courage. Siyempre ’yung fear, nakakapag-discourage siya sa mga dapat mong gawin. But God gives that to you so that you can overcome it."

So this is what makes this 16-year old fearless…it is the fact that he, despite his success, never attributes his accomplishments to himself. It is the fact that he openly admits that there are two driving forces, God and his parents, that inspire him to do his very best. It is this humble confession that gives him, indeed, the rightful label of NO FEAR.
