WHIPPING UP A NEW DISH

- Tina Pamintuan -
Dish has just about everything. Beneath the glass doors, there’s flamboyance in the Japanese-inspired paper lanterns hanging on the high ceiling. This family of suspended lamps arrogantly stand out against the bold red walls and black tables. Using adroit touches of Asia, the venue is strikingly creative. So what now, right?

Okay, here’s the good news. The yummy news. Dish definitely has the diversity and range in flavors. For meat lovers, Steak Factory by Melo’s gives you exactly what you want. Vietnamese noodle soup is never complete without a bouquet of basil leaves, vegetable sprouts, and a pinch of lemon. And for that, there’s Pho Hoa. A newcomer in Makati, Luna, an Italian restaurant located in Malate, brings us recognized, enduring flavors of Italian textbook food. If you want to avoid the stuffiness of ramen houses and the stiffness in prices of some top-notch Japanese places while matching all in the quality and taste of food, Hoshi brings you just that. Treat yourself to exemplary, time-tested, and home-cooked Spanish courses, from Alba’s. And who can ever refuse sinigang na ulo ng salmon or Filipino fave ihaw-ihaw dishes? Barangay then is the sure choice. Try the Pampangueño cuisine with concoctions like hito flakes with mangga, crunchy kambing, and papaitan. There’s also S, which stands for soups, salads, sandwiches, sweets and such.

But what’s Dish without the "fun," especially knowing that big party man EJ Litton is behind this establishment? To stir up a little breeze, you might want to consult the comprehensive cocktail list. Be ready to tap your foot when the live bands go on stage. Behind it, a retractable screen that can be used as a monitor on Sundays when Dish offers live karaoke accompanied by the band. Another detour is the elevated but mirrored DJ booth. The music takes off at midnight, playing dance tracks until closing time.

Another major highlight would have to be the private area towards the rear that serves as lounge rooms that can be rented and used for more intimate gatherings.

A jumble of meticulous ideas, Dish is the place to visit for exemplary choices of food, cocktails, impeccable entertainment in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. There’s no other one-stop place like it today, that’s for sure!
