Collegiate basketball in the Philippines is on it’s final stretches. It’s the Philippine Collegiate Champion’s League (PCCL) on roll and it’s missing the fireworks the past League plays had.
What’s wrong? What is missing?
More member schools? Nope.
Marquee players? Not at all.
Action? Getting close.
Officiating? Please.
Format? OH YES RIGHT ON THE MONEY.
What gives? Really? I get it that we have to have Manila schools from the Manila region representatives but as it is, the admin of the League has to mix it up. The Manila schools kill each other for what, one spot? What about those from down south? I think it’s better for them, development and competition wise, to be matched up regularly with schools based up north and in the NCR.
Here’s another thing: why are there reserved slots for the UAAP and NCAA champion? Those aren’t called for. Those aren’t needed.
Where’s the surprise factors in all of these when two champions are already seeded for the Final Four? This completely squashes Cinderella finishes, upsets and out of this world craziness that the US NCAA, the league this sorry excuse of an entity is trying to emulate.
Give everyone a fair shot at a national title!
The Visayan region has been brewing and gathering its strength waiting for a deserving foe to face. They surely must have gotten tired facing each and everyone of their co-region colleges and universities. Take for example the University of Visayas Lancers and the University of Cebu Webmasters. Throw in South Western University Stallions.
These guys have grown tired of each other in regionals.
Let them be bracketed with the Manila teams.
Wouldn’t it be great for their recruitment pitch if they ever chance upon a Cinderella story? Think Management Committee of PCCL.
Think hard.
Or this yearly tourney will lose its luster so fast that you’d be out of the airwaves sooner than you can hand out a participatory invite to other schools.
