On the gadgets of celebrities
As a writer for Technograph, I’ve been lucky enough to interview several celebrities about their gadgets and tech lifestyle. Here are some highlights:
Karen Bordador: “Even if my gadgets aren’t the newest, I’m reliant on technology, the use of it at least. It doesn’t matter to me if there are lots of new products coming out, as long as I still get what I want out of what I have.”
Jessy Mendiola: “Ako kasi, I’m more on the practical side. When I buy a gadget, I have to know if I can use it everyday. I’m not someone who’d just go out and get something just because it’s new.”
Rhian Ramos: “tech has to be user-friendly; the reason we have technology is to make life easier.” In other words, it never matters to her how powerful a gadget is. All she cares about is being able to do what she wants, in a way she can easily understand.
Ruffa Gutierrez: “As you can see my gadgets are tools to get things done. I’m not really a geek but lately I’ve been using my phone & laptop way too much. It’s so convenient, at least compared to the 90s where my suitors used to fax me or send snail mail from overseas. Now we can text, use Skype, and chat… I love it!! :)”
TJ Manotoc: TJ characterized himself as a “geek in denial” over the last couple of years, and considers his gadgets crucial to his work and personal lifestyles.
Alodia Gosiengfiao: ...she saw her gadgets as tools to use in her daily life. As she prepared herself for the next group of fans, my impression was that she would simply use what was available to share her cosplay.
Ashley Gosiengfiao: “From my more thorough conversation with the younger Gosiengfiao, she seemed more passionate about her gadget use.”
Jessica Zafra: “I’ve always thought of Jessica Zafra as a no-nonsense personality who likes going straight to the point, an approach she took when talking about her gadgets and their use.”
John Lloyd Cruz: “he most likely ends up owning a gadget because someone else gave it to him, as in the case of the Macbook (from his ex) and the iPod Touch (from a “kaibigan”).”
Manny Villar: “From what I understood, the senator prefers to maintain two different iPod shuffles —with different playlists — rather than just reconnect an iPod to the computer and change the music on it. Definitely a rich man’s habit (there’s no doubting the Senator’s wealth in any case), but Manny Villar stressed that it was all for efficiency’s sake. Some people may find such a casual mention of purchasing power mayabang, but I left the conversation feeling that he’s simply enjoying the fruits of his multi-decade career.”
Gloria Diaz: “Gloria Diaz jokingly(?) accused me of planning to make fun of her minimalist set-up in this article”
Isabelle Daza: “Isabelle Daza made it clear that gadgets are part of her everyday life.”
Kim Chiu & Gerald Anderson: “...both celebrities seem content using their gadgets for lifestyle purposes, with no prosumer sensibility whatsoever.”
Tisha Silang: “Looks like this woman doesn’t need much to get things done. When asked about her choice of cell phone, she made it clear that she was only interested in calling or texting”
Miriam Quiambao: “She may have the cash to spend for relatively high-end gadgets, yet is content to keep using them even when newer models come along.
