Lasting impressions, Shame Mosley

Sugar Shane Mosley couldn't have put up a better entrance.

Mosley was walking towards the ring, full of confidence, alongside a team with a swagger second to none, marching to the tune of LL Cool J's "Mama Said Knock You Out." Mosley looked good. Unlike other Pacquiao opponents, he didn't look dehydrated at all. He was a man who looked like someone who can shock the world..

Indeed, Sugar Shane couldn't have put up a better entrance. It's too bad, because the same can't be said about his exit.

Sugar Shane ended the fight being booed out of the ring, thanks largely to a performance that's even worse than his shameful display of heart and boxing skills against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Sergio Mora. As a boxing fan, one could've expected a better performance from Sugar Shane, given that this could be the final big fight in his career, and the fact that he even burned bridges with Golden Boy Promotions to get it.

But he blew it, Shane knows he blew it. Heck, even my 72-year-old grandmother knew it. This loss was more than just an L mark in his boxing record; what comes with it is probably one of the most shameful exits a boxer could ever have, and if Shane wants to continue on fighting, this fight doesn't do him good.

With this performance, don't expect Top Rank to give him another monumental fight in the near future. And with what he did with GBP, I don't believe they're interested in reuniting with him either.

"I think Shane has tapped Paquiao's gloves more then he has hit him with punches," Golden Boy Promotions president and 10-time world champion Oscar dela Hoya said in his Twitter account.

Cover, backpedal, tie up and occasionally throw a punch or two. That was Shane Mosley's game plan against the best pound-for-pound fighter of the decade. Well, at least after, he felt Pacquiao's power when the latter dropped him with a thunderous left in the third round.

Immediately after showing reluctance to throw in the early parts of round 4, it's clear that Mosley shifted from "Mama Said Knock You Out" to "For Mama, Don't Knock Me Out." Shane was just contented moving in and out, landing (and hitting) occasionally and hoping at the same time that Pacquiao doesn't nail him with a good one. That was the story of the match, and as frustrating as the match is, there's nothing much left to write about it.

It was a tough exit – Shane left in shame – leaving thousands of his fans disappointed. Boxing experts knew it was going to be as one-sided as this one, but no one expected Shane to pull away his punches and simply just back off to the finish. It's a fight that could very well tarnish his legacy, which is a sad thing considering how good Mosley was during his heydays.

For once, we thought that Shane would make a great match out of this. After all, with all the hype coming into the fight, add to it his "nothing-to-lose" stance, it looked like Shane was ready to go leaps in order to make the improbable happen. Instead, what we got was a 12-round boofest, with a knockdown stopover in the third round and a load-full of bull decision to call a "knockdown" in the 10th round.

Shane couldn't have put up a better entrance. It's just too bad that fights aren't remembered by ring entrances. (CJ)
