Asiana cited for on-time performance for 2nd year
MANILA, Philippines – Asiana Airlines (OZ) has been cited for best on-time performance for the second consecutive year in a survey conducted by the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (APAA).
The AAPA is composed of 17 airlines that operate across the Asia-Pacific. Its members include Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways, Korean Air, Royal Brunei, ANA, Japan Airlines (JAL), Dragon Air, Air New Zealand and Qantas, to name a few.
Of its members, 12 airlines regularly participate in the survey.
Asiana posted a 92.5 percent rating in on-time performance based on the latest AAPA survey. EVA Air of Taiwan tied this year with the same rating.
Statistics are gathered on the delay rates of airlines on a monthly and quarterly basis. The AAPA collects and averages final results to rank the airline with the lowest delay rate.
Asiana operated 50,274 flights last year, of which 46,508 flights operated on time.
In 2008, Asiana was also ranked at the top along with JAL, recording a 91.4 percent on-time performance.
Since its establishment in 1988, Asiana has made on-time performance one of its top priorities for quality passenger services.
An internal OTP committee regularly monitors, analyzes and develops methods to reduce possibilities of flight delays. In October 2006, Asiana introduced a system to continuously monitor OTP of its carriers on an hourly basis, and regularly educates employees on its importance to operations.
In October 2009, Asiana spent 2 billion won (est. US$1.7 million) to open the state-of-the-art Operations Control Center (OCC) at its Seoul headquarters. Through the OCC’s operations system, continuous monitoring has helped the airline in minimizing delays.
