MANILA, Philippines — The Southwestern Tagalog Region of MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) are expecting 37 cruise calls this year, according to the Department of Tourism's (DOT) office in the region.

The MIMAROPA office of the DOT based its announcement on the recent schedule of cruise calls as of January 8.

Twenty eight of the 37 cruise calls will be in Palawan as the province will see cruises arriving in Puerto Princesa City, Coron, El Nido, and Balabac Islands.

Just last January 7 and 8, Puerto Princesa City and Coron welcomed 2024's first cruise ship the CMV Vasco da Gama-Nicko from Nicko Cruises with over a thousand individuals on board.

Four of the cruise calls are headed to Apo Reef Natural Park and Lubang Island in Occidental Mindoro, three are headed to Romblon, and the remaining two are set for Marinduque.

The office expects 40,000 passengers and crew members to dock in the region throughout 2024.

More than 40,000 passengers and crew are expected to dock in MIMAROPA throughout the year.

The Philippines was recognized for the first time ever as Asia’s Best Cruise Destination at the 2023 World Cruise Awards, besting India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

In a bid to retain the title, the Philippine Ports Authority will develop new cruise terminals in Boracay, Coron, Camiguin, Siargao and Puerto Galera.
