LONDON — Potterheads around the globe are celebrating because today, May 2, is International Harry Potter Day!
According to National Today, May 2 marks the Battle of Hogwarts, the final conflict of the Second Wizarding War that took place in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The Order of the Phoenix became victorious, putting a conclusion into that war, resulting in the death of the novel series' arch nemesis, Lord Voldemort.
Due to the worldwide popularity of "Harry Potter," former United Kingdom Prime Minister David Cameron declared May 2 an official international holiday to commemorate J. K. Rowling's best-selling literary opus.
In anticipation of the new Harry Potter theme park in Tokyo that will open in June with a more "Fantastic Beasts" showcase, a rumored "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" live-action movie and a new "Harry Potter" series to be available for online streaming, revisit the books and the film series through the following photos and reels:
