Renovated Manila Zoo set to open on December 30
MANILA, Philippines — The newly renovated Manila Zoo will welcome visitors by the end of the month, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno announced on Wednesday.
On its Facebook page, the Manila Public Information Office posted photos showing the iconic Manila Zoo after it was rehabilitated. Moreno and Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna inspected it earlier today.
Naku, matutuwa po kayo," Moreno said.
According to the Manila PIO, 99% of the renovations have been completed. Starting next week, the animals will be taken to their respective enclosures.
“Ang ganda-ganda! Nakaka-proud talaga! Dati ang baho-baho dito. This is one for the books.
Ang laki eh,” he added.
The renovated zoo has also its own sewerage treatment plant. It will be recalled that former Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada ordered the closure of the zoo in 2019 after the Department of Environment and Natural Resources said that it was one of the major pollutants of Manila Bay.
