MANILA, Philippines – Acacia Hotel Manila recently capped off its Corporate Social Responsiblity program entitled “The Giving Tree,” a fresh pine tree located at the hotel lobby on which guests are invited to hang an origami crane. A big crane represents a donation of P300 while a small crane is P150.
Acacia Hotel Manila’s beneficiary for The Giving Tree is The Real LIFE Foundation, a non-profit Christian organization that provides underprivileged youth a better life through education. Proceeds from the project went to The Real Life high school and college scholars. An amount of P5,000 a month is needed for a college student and P2,500 a month for a high school student, to cover tuition, daily meals and transportation.
The group, which started in 2003, has more than 1,000 scholars and has produced close to 300 university and vocational graduates. Their work is based in empowering an individual not only through educational assistance but also by character formation and community service.
Acacia Hotel Manila was able to fill up the pine tree with the help of hotel guests and clients. A valued top corporate client opted to redeem their hotel points by purchasing P13,000 worth of cranes instead of receiving gift certificates. White origami cranes filled the tree and each had the name of the guest-donor. A total of P34,650 was raised.
