Intramuros conferred heritage award by Spain
MANILA, Philippines - Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr. (in barong), as chairman of the Intramuros Administration, received the Premio Patrimonio de la Humanidad (Heritage Award) from José Luis Rivas Hernandez (7th from left), mayor of Avila, Spain and also the concurrent president of the Group of World Heritage Cities in Spain. Held last month at the Palace of Los Verdugo in Avila, the award is in recognition of the successful conservation, restoration and redevelopment programs of the Department of Tourism (DOT) in the historic district of Intramuros. The Intramuros Administration is an attached agency of the DOT. The World Heritage Cities of Spain is composed of 15 cities whose monumental sites have been awarded the World Heritage Destination by the UNESCO. Jimenez is joined by the mayors of other member cities.
