PAL and WestJet begin code-share flights
MANILA, Philippines - Philippine Airlines launched a new code-share arrangement last Feb. 10 with WestJet of Canada, the flag carrier’s ninth code-share partner, in a growing network of commercial alliances that is a key driver of PAL’s international expansion.
The WestJet code-share is a straightforward arrangement where PAL places its code and sells seats on six select routes operated by the Canadian airline. These routes originate from PAL’s two gateways in Canada, Vancouver on the west coast and Toronto in the east.
They include WestJet services between Vancouver and Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Toronto. From Toronto, PAL code-shares on flights to Montreal and Ottawa.
The alliance with WestJet, Canada’s second-largest airline, effectively doubles PAL’s network reach in North America from five points — the two Canadian cities, Los Angeles and San Francisco in the continental United States, plus New York by March 15 — to 10 destinations in one stroke.
The flag carrier’s Manila-Vancouver-Manila and Manila-Toronto-Manila flights remain purely PAL operations.
In addition to the code-share, passengers on PAL's Canadian flights may connect to WestJet’s entire domestic network and to the Canadian airline’s international network such as the USA, Caribbean and Mexico.
