‘Big Davao Fun Sale’ launch set
MANILA, Philippines - The unique features of Davao City, the country’s biggest city with 2,444 square kilometers of land area, and the region are soon to be presented in one huge package in the Big Davao Fun Sale to highlight Visit Davao Year 2015.
“The big gets even bigger as next year’s fun sale will have the participation of all sectors in the region, showcasing Davao City not only as a metropolitan destination for shopping and entertainment, but also as the perfect icon for nature, culture and adventure where ecotourism shines in all its splendor,” said Department of Tourism assistant secretary for Mindanao Art Boncato.
“The Big Davao Fun Sale held last March 14 to April 16 successfully placed Davao as a metropolitan destination, which highlighted the potential in shopping as a major tourism activity and come-on. Having achieved this objective, we are eyeing a comprehensive coverage of all tourism sectors in the region and their participation in next year’s event,” Boncato explained.
The sale will be launched at SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia, on Sept. 5 during the staging of the Philippine Travel Mart (PTM) 2014 where Davao is an exhibitor.
The Davao exhibits at the PTM 2014 will highlight what the region has to offer in the forthcoming 2015 Big Davao Fun Sale scheduled on April 3 to May 15.
Boncato said the post-event evaluation of this year’s fun sale showed that Davao’s distinct selling point was not mall shopping, but ecotourism, adventure and cultural activities as symbolized by its royalties – durian the king of fruits, waling-waling the queen of flowers, Philippine eagle the king of birds, giant clam the queen of the sea, pomelo the top take-home pick, Mount Apo the highest peak, and tuna as the top dining favor-eat.
“With these tourism products as the main attractions for tourists, we will highlight them through tour packages at very competitive rates under the ‘Visit Davao Fun Sale 2015’ on April 3 to May 15,” Boncato pointed out.
Boncato said the fun sale would be Davao’s primary participation in the Visit Philippines Year 2015.
