Oakwood Asia-Pacific launches 'Trust is...' photography campaign

SINGAPORE — The familiar sound of camera clicks doubles in decibels as Oakwood launched its “Trust is...” photography competition, the third in a series of exciting campaigns to celebrate Oakwood’s 50th anniversary.

The competition is in partnership with Canon, a leader in photography, digital imaging and office solutions.

Howard Ruby, founder and chairman of Oakwood Worldwide and a strong supporter of photography talent, is calling on all amateur photographers to participate in the competition.

Twelve talented photo buffs will get the chance to showcase their winning entries to the world in a traveling exhibition and limited edition postcards.

The top winner stands to win the grand prize of a Canon EOS 5D Mark II, two round-trip business class airline tickets, and premier accommodations to attend the launch of the traveling exhibition at an Oakwood apartment in the Asia-Pacific — a prize worth over S$15,000.

There will also be 11 runner-up prizes of Canon’s PowerShot A3000 IS camera and complimentary room stays at Oakwood properties for other winning images selected.

“We want photography enthusiasts to help celebrate the five decades of trust Oakwood has received from its valued guests, through sharing what ‘Trust is...’ to them, captured in unique and awe-inspiring photographs,” Ruby says.

Entrants can upload their photographs via the official 50th anniversary website www.oakwoodasiapacific.com/50anniversary until Nov. 15.

Aspiring photographers are encouraged to capture anything from their treasured pets to stunning architecture, as long as it is based on their interpretation of trust.

A panel of expert judges will select 50 images for public voting. Voting opens on Nov. 16 and closes on Dec. 31.

Visitors to the official 50th anniversary website will have seven weeks to vote for their top three favorite representations of what “Trust is...”

This campaign is not just limited to photographers, but to voters as well. Each week a voter who has registered on the official 50th anniversary website will be drawn at random to win two-night stays at any of the Oakwood Serviced Apartments in the Asia-Pacific.

The 12 most popular photographs voted for by the public shall be announced in January 2011. The grand prize winning image will be selected by a committee, including Ruby, recognized as the International Conservation Photographer of the Year in 2007 by the National Wildlife Association and whose photos were selected to be displayed in the Smithsonian’s Natural History Museum.

The 12 winning images will form a showcase exhibition that will travel across Asia in selected Oakwood properties and will be produced as a limited edition postcard series by Oakwood, providing a wonderful pictorial display of what “Trust is...”

This competition is only open to residents in Asia. For more information and full terms and conditions of the competition, log on to www.oakwoodasiapacific.com/50anniversary/competition.php.
