MANILA, Philippines - The chefs of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino continue to expand their presence in the culinary arena.
After an impressive victory at Cebu Goes Culinary, the hotel moved on to compete in the first Philippine Culinary Cup last Aug. 4-7 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.
Waterfront joined two of the 16 professional events officiated by a world-renowned panel of chefs from Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Thailand, namely the Pastry Bakery Showpiece, and Pralines and Petit Fours.
Supervised by Group Pastry Chef Gabriel Garcia and accompanied by Banquet Chef Alan Chan, Chef de Partie Benjie Lañas brought home the gold in the Pastry Bakery Showpiece for his “Lola Beryl,” which also won gold with distinction in the recently concluded Cebu Goes Culinary.
Chef de Partie Dino de la Victoria bagged bronze in the Pralines and Petit Fours category, with his “Haute Chocolate.”
These awards are reaffirmations of Garcia’s belief that “the sky is the limit, and nothing is impossible if you work hard.”
These principles are also reflected in his desserts: bite-sized tiramisus, fruit tarts, crème brûlées, and chocolate concords at UNO; the cupcakes, macaroons and cakes at Madeleine; and his signature customized cakes that can make any occasion go from special to spectacular.
Leading a team of 58 for Waterfront Food Concepts — the chain’s subsidiary that manages its lifestyle concept restaurants and supplies the finest breads and pastries for its hotels and local clientele — Garcia proves that indeed, “Any cake you want, Waterfront can bake it happen.”
