MANILA, Philippines - Let the month of August bring you more than a shower of rain as Seven Suites Hotel, the only hotel-observatory in the country, welcomes the Perseid meteor shower tonight.
“There will be plenty of meteors — about one or two every minute, or about 50 per hour. The Perseids is one of the most awaited meteor showers this year and is caused by a particular comet. This particular meteor shower comprises debris coming from the Comet Swift-Tuttle,” said Ramon Acevedo, Seven Suites’ in-house astronomer.
The “Perseid Earthgrazers” can also be observed as they approach the horizon and skim through the sky like skipping stones over water. Among the most beautiful of all meteors, they appear to be long, slow and colorful.
With the aid of the Seven Suites’ powerful 12-inch diameter telescope (the fourth most powerful in the country), guests will certainly have the best view.
To make the experience not only entertaining but informative, too, Acevedo is also giving out some interesting “galactic” trivia during the meteor shower event.
To make the night unique, Sugar, Seven Suites’ dessert restaurant, is offering a buffet of its most popular sweet offerings.
