Malayan Plaza: The residence of choice

- Lester Gopela Hallig -

MANILA, Philippines - Business travelers give off the idea that, after a day’s work in another country, they would just plop on their beds and not care about what the rest of the room looks like. Truth is, business travelers do care. They want a cozy temporary home, away from their base.

It is this particular want that the Malayan Plaza aims to address. Already in operation for four years now, the Malayan Plaza has 123 rooms, ranging from one-bedroom configurations to studio types.

It is located right smack in the middle of the Ortigas business center, a few stones away from major offices and commercial centers. As a service residence, it has a track record of approval from its loyal business-traveler clientele.

Malayan Plaza hotel manager Melisse Salvano says location is a major come-on. Salvano says, “That is one of our big advantages. Our clients also appreciate the fact that we are able to satisfy their requirements in terms of accessibility, proximity, and room facilities. They love that we have bigger rooms as compared to regular hotels. They actually feel that they get more value from us.”

With the basic room measuring 42 square meters and the biggest one at 84 square meters, one can look forward to more space to move. In fact, their rooms come complete with living, dining, and kitchen facilities.

“The size of our rooms do not make our guests feel claustrophobic,” she continues. “We have the complete set-up than a regular hotel room. We have a kitchen, full-sized refrigerator, everything. It is very ideal for guests who are staying for a longer period. Because we have bigger rooms, you can bring your family with you.”

She credits the excellent service of the staff as one of the reasons why the Malayan Plaza has built a loyal following.

“As a service residence, we take care good care of the needs of the guests who come in. Quantum Hotels & Resorts is doing an excellent job in managing this property. It is quite a young group with a dynamic and creative staff. The staff has grown with the company, and their love for their job is reflected in the service they give to guests,” she says.

Despite being a young industry player, Quantum Hotels & Resorts has quickly made an impressive name and list of accomplishments under its belt.

“As a group, Quantum is a very active and growing management company,” Quantum’s vice president for operations Joey Bernardino shares. “We began with our Makati properties and expanded here in Ortigas with the Malayan Plaza and in Quezon City with Torre de Venezia. We then started with a property in Bangkok, the Luxx XL Hotel. We are further expanding in Boracay with the Nandana Resort.”

Developments are also underway in Davao with the Ritz Garden Hotel, in Batangas with Club Balai Isabel, and another property in Bangkok.

Given that Quantum faces stiff competition with its contemporaries, Bernardino is confident that their commitment to excellence is what will, ultimately, bring in the guests.

He explains, “One of our key ingredients is we try to extend, as much as possible, excellent service for every single visit of a single customer. We also provide a very affordable alternative to a hotel, the Malayan Plaza being an example. Like what Melisse just said, bigger rooms serve as our advantage.”

Bernardino and Salvano chorus that a property like the Malayan Plaza has come at a time when people are looking for value. “We are happy that we could give them exactly that and more. That is why we are the residence of choice.”
