MANILA, Philippines - Peking Garden formally opened at the fourth level of Greenbelt 5, Phase 2 on Jan. 19. The top guns of Maxim’s Caterers, Ltd. flew in from Hong Kong to grace the happy occasion. Honorary chairman James Wu and young chairman and managing director Michael Wu headed the distinguished guests from Maxim’s which operates 580 restaurants in Hong Kong. Peking Garden Philippines is an affiliate of Maxim’s Group.
Hosting the event was Peter Ng, president of Exotic Cuisine, Inc. The lion dancers of the Philippine Ling Nam Athletic Association entertained the guests with their acrobatic and energetic act while the country’s premier pop violinist Jay Cayuca entertained the crowd with his repertoire of Broadway songs. The guests had a tasty preview of what puts Peking Garden truly in a league of its own with its fine northern Chinese cuisine. Seen enjoying their good food and equally good company were Washington Sycip, Oscar Lopez, agriculture secretary Arthur Yap, Dr. Felipe Tolentino, comedy icon Dolphy, singer Zsa Zsa Padilla, Eric Quizon, Cris and Nanette Po, Maxim’s executive director Wilson Wu, directress Rose Wu, Katie Wu, Michael Kok and Howard Mowlem of The Dairy Farm Group Hong Kong, lawyer Federico Ples, Ethel Soliven Timbol, and Wilfred Magcase, among others. Mario Tan hosted the evening’s program.
