The practical Asian traveler

MANILA, Philippines - Joy Rosete, an adventurer, recently conquered Cambodia for five days via Thailand, for just $100.

Joy didn’t think twice about sharing her travel secrets: learn to inquire, interact and invest.

“I did some research on the Internet first. After booking a round-trip Cebu Pacific ticket way before my travel date, I also got some tips from OFWs living in Thailand about what they usually do to make an exit and a re-entry after visiting Cambodia,” she shares.

Joy got a head start on the cheapest and most practical routes available for her on her way to Cambodia from Thailand.

Joy also suggests traveling with a small group because it’s cheaper especially when the time comes to split the bill. Joy made friends with her tuktuk driver in Thailand, who also served as her trusty travel guide and hiking buddy.

“Being friends with my tuktuk driver allowed me to reach places not included in a usual tourist itinerary. I definitely got great tips on the best places to see,” Joy adds.

She also encourages travelers to invest in important things, such as bringing an extra camera battery and a portable external hard drive for her travel photos. This way, you will not need to frantically buy batteries and memory cards which can be pricey at tourist establishments.

Another must is to invest in new knowledge. Joy advises travelers on-the-go who are on a budget to drop by pension houses and budget hotels, and be able to compare rates and amenities.

“The whole travel, from Thailand to Cambodia and back, was worth it regardless of the long hours or the bumpy and dusty road from Poi Pet (Cambodia-Thailand border) to Siem Reap. The sunrise at Angkor Wat is one of the best I’ve seen,” she relates.

Budget trips are now made possible through Cebu Pacific (CEB). CEB continues offering the lowest air fares to Thailand all-year-round, making budget trips easier to plan. With gateways in Manila and Clark offering direct flights to Bangkok, Thailand.

The airline flies to Bangkok every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from Clark, and daily from Manila. It also has a 30-kilo free baggage allowance promo for those with check-in luggage on Clark-Bangkok flights until June 30.
