MANILA, Philippines - Island Cove Hotel and Leisure Park, the premier eco-friendly business and leisure destination in Cavite, recently signed in as one of the Philippine attractions to be toured by the 2009 Ms. Earth delegates.
On Nov. 13, 25 contestants of the pageant will have a day filled with activities at the resort, including a press conference at Sangley Point Bar and Grill, a tree-planting activity at the Animal Island, and a fashion show at the Oceania Water Park. Guests of the resort are welcome to take part in the activities.
Island Cove managing director Gilbert Remulla said, “We are thrilled to be part of the Ms. Earth 2009 itinerary. As an eco-friendly resort, we are one with the Ms. Earth pageant in promoting environmental awareness.”
Last year, Island Cove launched its zero waste management policy wherein wastes generated on the island are reused and, to the extent that these can no longer be reused, are recycled.
The island generates some 1,000 kilograms of wastes daily. Prior to the launch of the policy, 100 percent of its wastes were collected and transferred to landfills. Now, 90 percent of Island Cove’s wastes are composted and turned into fertilizer, and the rest recycled.
An electric tram was also purchased to transport visitors from one point of the 36-hectare island to another.
The electric tram is a zero-emission vehicle. It eliminates several tons of fuel emission annually compared to the previously used shuttle service.
Remulla said, “There is so much we can do to rehabilitate our environment’s deteriorating condition. As an environment-friendly resort, these are just some of the measures we are taking to help alleviate some of Mother Earth’s growing problems.”
Island Cove is known to be the pioneer in the tourism industry with respect to the introduction of a multitude of attractions that lure both local and foreign visitors.
Existing facilities available to its guests are the Hotel, Oceania Water Park, Animal Island, Island Songs KTV, paintball arena and airsoft game site, Fishing Village, petting zoo, and the Island Spa.
Island Cove’s other well-loved trademarks include the outdoor giant chess set, the playground, and Concert Park, to name a few.
Island Cove Hotel and Leisure Park is ISO 9001:2000 certified and accredited by the Department of Tourism as a triple “A” resort.
Located in the historic town of Kawit, Cavite, this Mediterranean-inspired 36-hectare island is only 45 minutes away from Manila.
